SPALTED BEECH bowl with hematite

Out of stock

This little round bottomed bowl is decorated with pyrography and coloured using hematite (iron ore). This was used by the Neolithic people to colour and decorate stone. Hematite can be found on the beach here in Orkney. The hematite and pyrography compliment each other on  the lighter beech wood. The few spalting lines in the wood also work really well. The bowl sits nicely on the hemp ring, made from an unwanted wooden curtain ring wrapped with the hemp twine. Finished with several coats of oil and buffed. 85mm x 125mm∅

Recommended dry use only.
