OAK ‘Grooved ware’ bowl

Turned from oak this bowl is inspired by the Neolithic Grooved ware pottery. The shape of the bowl and the carved grooves mimic pieces of pot found on archaeological digs here in Orkney. A bead detail with pyrography has been added around the rim. The bowl has been ebonised to give it the added look of a pot used on an open fire. The pyrography decoration under the beading is the authentic pattern found on the ‘Unstan ware’ pottery. This little bowl will be a great talking point and is very decorative. Finished with several coats of oil and buffed. Approx. 110mm  x 135mm∅
