Inspired by the stone spatulae, found at the Ness, Michael has carved some Ebony ones. These are being sold on their own and with Neolithic Unstan ware inspired bowls.

  • Hand carved from ebony and inspired by the stone spatulate tools found at the Ness of Brodgar (an example is pictured above).
  • The ebony is a piece imported for the use of making fretboards for guitars and didn’t make the grade. Their loss is our gain.
  • A stunning little piece that will create a lot of conversation and is extremely tactile

Michael has been inspired by various finds from different digs in Orkney, but especially The Ness of Brodgar. This incredible site is situated just across the Loch from us.

Here is a couple of links to articles written back in 2020

We continued with this in 2021 even having the privilege of photographing a Lignum Vitae ‘petrosphere‘ alongside the stone one found at the dig.

Next summer is the last site dig before it moves into a new and exciting phase of intensive work. Time now to arrange that visit to the site and our beautiful Islands.

We hope to continue supporting The Ness of Brodgar in the future
