It is very difficult to find driftwood that is suitable for turning, so you can imagine our delight when Michael’s nephew on Sanday found not just one log but two.
The first one was alder.
The colour in the wood was very distinctive and it made a couple of beautiful pieces.

The second log Michael thinks is chestnut. He has started to make pieces from it.

We would love to find other usable logs of driftwood, but who knows 🤞
