Michael, years ago (with the help of books and videos) taught himself thread chasing. He often makes little boxes. He has made a few lately in the shape of little acorns. He turns them from English boxwood, which is ideal with it’s close grain and hard enough to take the thread and keep it. It finishes beautifully and can take a bit of stain if necessary. We have a little acorn box for sale on our website shop.
Last time he was making one I schnooked into the workshop and did a bit of video. Have a little look with a cuppa.
