Schools in Scotland are back this week, Orkney ones start back next week. All the shows are by with and the last open day for The Ness of Brodgar is on Sunday, but we are not giving up on the summer. It has been fantastic weather so far, not as hot as down in England, but that is a blessing, however exceptionally hot and dry for Orkney. Lots of eating and cooking outside and we love that. Our Kamado Joe has had plenty of use over the summer and this week has been a bit of a outside eating festival. After a busy day on County Show day we chilled out with homemade rhubarb gin and cooked crepes as we use to when we had the butty van (Sinkys for one evening only)
Mid week we took a run down over the barriers to our friends Nick & Rosemary Moon to enjoy a look round their very productive greenhouse and veg plot, enjoy a meal sourced mainly from the afore mentioned and take in the stunning view from their lovely home. (The photo doesn’t do it justice).
Last night we popped into Kirkwall to collect our grand-dog as Mik & Ross are off to Wick for a wedding. Joy of joys they have just bought a most incredible pizza oven. It is an excellent piece of kit. Ross had made beautiful pizza bases and after toppings were lavished on them (sometimes by MrOrkwoodturner) they were cooked in a matter of minutes and consumed nearly as quickly, yum.
So now we have grand-dog responsibilities and need to get things ready for Sundays Open Day
