That’s been a very interesting couple of days, in a good way.
Michael is part of an exhibition, with 12 local makers, ‘Out of the Wood’ being held this month at The Exhibition Room in The Old Library in Kirkwall. Have had pieces in exhibitions before, but this was different as we were setting it up ourselves. Had a mock set up of our pieces here, but that was a drop in the ocean. The room is fantastic (as is the building) so fueled up with good coffee the head scratching began. Although the theme was wood, the different makers certainly used it in a wide variety of ways giving us several display challenges.
Day one, a good head start, but also a few things to think about overnight.
Day two, a few plans in place and off we went. Time was ticking, but then suddenly it all came together, a final tweak and a shifting of lights, job done. Good team effort.
Bite to eat, shower, change and then preview night. The room soon filled, the atmosphere was really good, wine flowed and chat filled the air. Think we will call it success.
There was an added invitation, ‘The wooden women’ from The Library, a beautiful sculpture by Marvin Elliot was brought in for the evening to make an impressive appearance on the stairs.
Off to the pub for a little celebration pint.😀😉 🍻
The exhibition opens today and runs through to the 24th Feb when there will be a meet the makers afternoon.
