The festive season🎅 🎄is well upon us now. The decorations are up, presents are wrapped🎁, shortbread and mince pies are being made and the radio is playing Christmas music📻, excellent, I love Christmas, takes a bit more to get orkwoodturner (or the grumpy one 😒as he is affectional know) into the Christmas spirit, shortbread and a glass of red 🍷usually helps 😉.
We attended a Christmas Fayre at the Highland Park distillery. It was the 1st one to be held there and it was a fantastic setting. It was held in the malting house, which was very cold☃, but very atmospheric. There was a wide range of stalls there from beer🍻, chocolate🍫, pickles and gin🍸 to all kinds of arts and crafts. Our local butcher came along with a hog roast 😜 and the Highland Park staff kept us warm with excellent coffee☕. Michael’s daughter and her husband were on hand to help and all round it was a great family day.
The Christmas decorations are up in the gallery and with the outside lights it looks very festive. There are lots of people in Orkney now decorating their houses with outside lights and where you use to have to drive about to see displays they are now visible on every road. This is great and really brightens everywhere up with the very short days 🌘 we have just now and the not very Christmasy grey🌧, wet weather.
The Christmas Exhibition at the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness has been on for a few weeks now. The standard is very high and there are some exceptional young makers exhibiting this year. We are really pleased where our pieces have been placed and how they look and hope lots of people will enjoy the event.
Kirkwall is looking beautiful. The Cathedral⛪ looks great lit up with the Christmas tree in front of it, boats are decorated in the harbor and the shop windows are full of festive goodies. Excitement will be building over the ‘Ba’ as well, meetings will be going on and plans being laid (hope it goes doon😉).
Hope you all have a fantastic Christmas.
